Celebrating Small Business in Alaska
Today’s Motivational Monday blog post is a little different, but I’m excited about it. This last Saturday was Small Business Saturday.
I was curious about how many small businesses in Alaska participated, and the amount I could find made me smile and revive my motivation about why AK Lean Virtual Assistance exists.
On November 23rd, 2018, the Alaska Public Media posted an article, written by Kristen Swann, highlighting various companies participating in Small Business Saturday. In the article, “Small Business Saturday spotlights Alaska companies”, there was a link to a map provided by the Anchorage Press.
The map identifies 33 small businesses participating in this event, to include well known small businesses like the 49th State Brewing Company, Snow City Cafe, and the Glacier Brewhouse.
While these were not the only 33 small businesses celebrating Small Business Saturday, they were part of a local event, Shop Small. This event promoted shopping at the local businesses by allowing shoppers to present receipts and receive a tote, discounts to the Alaska Performing Arts Center, and a chance to win Alaska Airline tickets.
I know this blog post sounds like a sales pitch for the event, but hold on, I’m getting to the motivational part.
The reason this is motivational, to me, is because AK Lean Virtual Assistance was created with these businesses in mind! My dream was to have a virtual assistance business that could help these local small businesses succeed. I wanted to provide them with the administrative support they may not be able to afford, so they can get back to being awesome at what they were meant to do.
Whether it’s brewing beer, selling beautiful pieces of artwork, or serving up the best breakfast in town, I want to be there to support them in whatever way they need.
Alaska’s small businesses are the reason I believe Small Business Saturday is one of the most motivational days of the year!
